Moohak Church

Moohak Church was established in 1947. Construction was completed on a new building in 2005 and it was selected by the Korean Association of Architects as one of the most beautiful building structures of 2005.

Pastor Chang Keun Kim, Chief Sound Engineer Young Ho Ho and Sound Engineer Keun Hyung Park quickly realized that their existing sound system just couldn’t handle the vast range of requirements of a modern church. Various styles of Christian bands performed in concerts at the church and they demanded a higher level of sound reinforcement.

Adamson Korean Support Acoutek was contacted due to their history and track record with church installations in Korea. The Moohak church decided to do thorough research on the options available this time around, and called in three major pro sound companies, including Adamson. The main criteria for the final decision was that it had to sound really good, but also had to be aesthetically beautiful, in order to match the award winning design of the church. In addition, custom colors would be required for the boxes.

Adamson’s SpekTrix finished at the top. Its crisp clear hi-end, warm mids and balanced bass filled the church with a welcoming sound and projected the Pastor’s voice accordingly. Because Adamson manufactures all the parts needed for their speaker enclosures (with the exception of the B&C tweeters found in the SpekTrix), the custom color request was easily fulfilled. Acoutek installed 18 Adamson SpekTrix, 4 Spektrix Waves, 2 SpekTrix Subs for the main left and right arrays.10 CB-1’s were placed for under balcony and side fills, and 2 MX10’s provided monitoring on the stage for the pastor.

There were a few areas that caused difficulties and had to be taken into consideration with the installation. The Ceiling height of 82 feet (25m) caused a problem with the previous conventional speaker installation, but with the Adamson true source line-array and the use of 2 SpekTrix Wave 15 degree boxes at the bottom of each array, the last row of the high balcony as well as the front row of the orchestra seating were evenly covered. The walls of the choir pit had to be specially treated in order to get rid of a “standing wave”.

All speakers in the installation are powered with Lab.gruppen and controlled with XTA’s DP226’s with Adamson presets. The church’s sound engineers and Acoutek are working on several custom presets to cover various events taking place at Moohak.
