The Rolling Stone chooses Adamson
May 4, 2007
The Rolling Stone was born in 1982 from a fairly ambitious idea: to create a venue offering exclusively Rock music. Thanks to the commitment of the staff and the steady flow of international artists passing through in the coming years, the venue has received the critical title of “Temple of Rock”. It’s impossible to list all the talent that has graced the Rolling Stone’s stage, but here’s a few: Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Bob Geldof, Jethro Tull, Joe Cocker, Beck, Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, Alanis Morrisette, Oasis, Robin Williams, Sheryl Crow, Massive Attack, Ben Harper, Nick Cave, Paul Weller, Deftones, Van Morrison and many more. In 1999 Il Rolling Stone was completely remodeled to become structurally and architecturally more versatile. Thanks to this new look, the venue has gathered notoriety and has become one of the most popular venues in Milan, holding private events for Italian royalty such as Armani, Cavalli, Versus, Eros Ramazzotti, and for the likes of The Rolling Stones, whose confidential and frequent visits inspired the club’s title. The venue’s long term success is partially thanks to its clever interior design and set-up which lending itself for the many uses that also include fashion shows, televised events and conferences. It now holds theme nights titled “Caraibi” dedicated for Latin American Rhythms and “Fidelio” dedicated to the fashion crowd and their choice of house music.
Adamson’s Italian Distributor,Reference Laboratory’s Angelo Tordini specked and designed this unique main hall installation. It features three complete systems meant for diverse uses. One is the full size, flown, concert set-up. It’s made up of two arrays of a single Y10 Sub on top, with four Y10’s and four SpekTrix 5 degree boxes flown as in a under hang. TwoY10 Subs, each equipped with two 18” Kevlar Neodymium drivers, are placed on the ground to add a balanced low end and Reference Laboratory monitors are used on the stage to complete the concert system.
The second system is a complete surround style system used exclusively for the club nights and private events. The independent club system has two arrays of one SpekTrix Sub and a four SpekTrix under hang, placed directly opposite of the Concert system, as well as a single T21 Sub hung cleverly in the center of the room pointing down from the ceiling, providing 140.5dB of continuous SPL to keep the masses dancing all night. The main floor boasts an equally impressive lighting system which is hung off of a massive trussing rig that hovers over the dance floor with arms reaching out like a giant octopus, illuminating the room with LED lighting, incorporating several LCD TV's.
The third system is Reference Laboratory’s proprietary speakers that are hung from the ceiling in the glass-shielded room underneath the balcony, which is directly behind the seated stair area of the main floor. It contains two bars, a lounge and a conversation area. This area has full view of the main dance floor, the stage and about a dozen flat video screens.
The two monitoring areas are up on a private balcony with a circular staircase straight off the stage. FOH receives a custom barricade on the floor during concerts, placed directly in front of the seated stairs, thus keeping the optimal listening point without obstructing the audience’s view of the stage. Both Adamson sound systems are equipped with the european standard Adamson turnkey solutions package for power and processing, complete with Lab.gruppen amplifiers and XTA processing.
